FTLComm - Tisdale - May 22, 2000

The arrival of exotic foreign animals onto farms has become common place. Elk farms are spreading around, as are Bison and over near Bjorkdale is a great herd of South American Lamas. This farm yard only a couple miles from Tisdale has a growing flock of relatives of the lama, alpacas.

This South American animal is not used as a beast of burden like the lama but is prized for the wool it produces. These fibres can be woven into extremely light and highly valued garments. I did not want to get to close to this little herd so the pictures do not show the shave marks but these animals have already had their winter coats removed, you can see one woolly individual just right of centre in the picture on the right who escaped the clean up his friends received.

Farmers love having these animals around as they are friendly with humans and lack most nasty habits.
