Watson, the home of the Santa Claus Day |
||||||
FTLComm - Watson - Saturday, December 13, 2003 | ||||||
I remember the first Santa Claus Day I went to, it was in Wawota and there were big bags of candy and the theatre was jammed with kids and parents alike. In the years that followed we would make a point of going to Kennedy, Kipling, Whitewood and Moosomin for the big day, the free movie and of course would do some shopping. I certainly wasn't aware of it then but the whole idea of a Santa Claus day began in Watson. Watson is about a half hour from other similar towns like Wadena, Wynyard, Raymore each with their own community and |

businesses so it makes sense that this Christmas event would evolve here. On Wednesday night at supper time I stopped in Watson for a break in my trip home from Regina and with the camera mounted looking out through the windshield as flakes melted on it I clicked these images. At the top of the page is the large display commemorating Watson's founding of the Santa Claus Day tradition. The next picture is the trees at the foot |

of main street and the third picture has us looking North up Main. I then turned around and got a second picture of the trees where the station used to be then above is the display at the head of main. This image on the right is looking West from the North end of main street and the picture below is looking back South down Watson's main street, this definitely looks a lot like Christmas to me. |
