FTLComm - Winnipeg, MB - April 22, 2000 |
As we drove
through an ultra modern section of Winnipeg's South West a vast expensive housing
development spreads out between the South Perimeter highway and the former business
section that has been there for some years. In the zone between the new development
and the established area has grown up an area with a series of multi-dwelling condominiums
and |
apartment buildings
and amidst this development is the outstanding new church. Located a block from
a new school and on a wide open area this building seems to be an example of what
must be the early 21st century era. Sharp jutting roof lines to contrast against
the flat surrounding area with stone finish and metal roofing. (It immediately made
me think of Noah and perhaps this building was created by an architect who lives
in Winnipeg's flood zone.)
Finding the right mix of floor space and to create an atmosphere suitable for worship
and prayer this building's exterior seems to have capture a lot of what we might
be looking for in a church. We were unable to see the inside but for now the symmetry
of this building is a thing of beauty. |
