Tisdale community band spring concert
Tisdale - Tuesday, April 1 2012

Sunday’s concert was in three parts. The band opened with a mixture of traditional brass band numbers and a couple of concert pieces. The eleven voiced men’s choir presented a set of gospel numbers with the excellent back up by Morris Taylor on piano.

I would like to give you more details but for some reason the master of ceremonies chose to not use a microphone and even though I sat in the very front row there was not a single word he said that I was able to make out. I am sure what he said was important but he kept that pretty much to himself.

After intermission the band raised the level of their performance considerably as they performed
Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah then treated us to three Beatles songs and three selections from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. Wonderful stuff played with passion and great dynamics.

The video clip does not do justice to the performance as it was hand held and at a low angle so we don’t get to see the musicians faces which were hidden by the music stands but the six minute nineteen second clip gives you a feel for the quality of the afternoon’s excellent show.
