Harvest begins

FTLComm - Tisdale - Thursday, August 16, 2007

Over the past few days the swathers around Tisdale have been busy knocking down Canola fields. I drove a near circle around the community this afternoon and seen swahers at work but the combines were idle awaiting drier conditions.

What was obvious in driving around is that we are surrounded by what really looks to be a splendid crop. The Canola in particular is tall and when swathed stands up

in tall windrows. Wheat looks outstanding and I was surprised to see many lush oat crops. It may just have been the route I took but I saw few barley crops and the only pea crop seen was right beside town.

In general everything is ready for harvest. The cool damp conditions have prrevented the combines from working their way through the fields but that will come in the next few days.
