I was very impressed about last night's conversation between Larry King and President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak of Egypt.

international phenomena

President Mubarak stated that the Islamic type of terrorism just experienced in America is an international phenomena and that it should be fought through an international cooperation among countries. In this respect, President Mubarak went on to say that he has been repetitively calling for an international conference on terrorism since the early 90s, and that his advice was repetitively discounted.

Mubarak closed his conversation with Larry King saying that unless an international move to eradicate terrorism was initiated our planet would be doomed.

He was right as today everybody is paying the price of international terrorism. A few minutes ago I just heard from CNN that Israel has halted military operations in the Middle East and that there is a commitment to a ceasefire among Israelis and Palestinians. This is a major advancement to peace efforts in the Middle East as Yasser Arafat has been always accused of being the culprit of the terrorist attacks against Israelis; yet, Yasser Arafat has been always claiming that those attacks were the responsibilities of Islamic extremists.

Congratulations to both Israeli and Palestinian leaders for the recognition that this Islamic type of terrorism is an international phenomena, for their provisional commitment to a ceasefire, and for opening up a new avenue to peace in the region.
