identifying corporate welfare and justifying privatization

We have competent demagogues in our elitist democracy. We must be very clear in realizing that when we are not able to discern between personal good and common good then we all behave like hypocrites, just like demagogic politicians, demagogic social and economic pundits, demagogic academicians. So as I read yesterday's article "Technology Partnerships Canada, Another Corporate Welfare Nightmare for Taxpayers " by Walter Robinson of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation I thought of yet another hypocrite.

Walter Robinson is right in pointing out the despicable behaviour of our government in doling out money to corporate Canada through the Technology Partnerships Canada programme. But Walter Robinson becomes a demagogue when he asserts that

"The more prudent and responsible approach to stimulating investment in Canada remains one of further lowering personal, payroll, corporate and capital taxes while consistently monitoring regulatory regimes and removing those barriers and fees deemed contrary to public and competitive interests."

In our writing we have found out that economic development of a country is not dependent on its level of taxation. Also, we have found out that there is no such a thing as a single economic model- Free Market-which ensures the economic development of any country.

Everybody wants to have a higher value for the Canadian dollar and stimulate foreign investments in Canada, and I ask if such policies are good policies in absence of local savings and local investments. Most provincial politicians are preaching smaller governments, less taxes and more privatization and I say that all this preaching reinforces the so-called "race to the bottom" for our social and economic welfare. Education and health are the most important equalizers in an unequal world, and therefore these services should be as publicly sustained as possible.
