FTLComm - Tisdale - June 1, 2000

This morning Tisdale Town crew set to work building a parking lot. When the Recplex was expanded to include the high school the storage yard of the RMs was turned over to the town but since then it has not been usable as a parking lot. Though it had some gravel on it as soon as there was moisture the place became a bit muddy. The plan is to turn it into paved parking just like the rest of the large parking lot West of the RecPlex complex.

The first thing to be done is remove up to two feet of material on the site. This mixture of clay and some gravel is being hauled away and used as fill just West of the old UGG elevator where it is likely to one day become a base for truck parking. Once the present material is excavated the area will be filled in and packed with good gravel providing the base for the pavement which will be installed some time

in the future. This is the second big project for the town crew this week with the new alley packed and gravelled that goes East from Wicks and R Place. I drove down that alley for the first time this morning and it is a fine job. Having good equipment and experienced skilled operators makes it possible for the town to carry on projects like these simply and efficiently. In the middle of this new lot as they excavated an old gas line was discovered and SaskEnergy came over to check it out and see that it was properly disposed of. The line was not charged with gas and the crew had been aware of its presence but it was wise to check with

a SaskEnergy official. This parking lot will improve the conjestion around the complex but it certainly will not solve the problem. Each school day the parking lot fills and vehicles are arranged along the driveways in the area. When special events and hockey games take place parking at the RecPlex can be quite a chore. Though virtually no amount of parking would ever be enough, it is sort of like closet space, this new parking lot will provide a little more space. During those special events the large open area between Venice House and Bow Mar

is often used. Montana Construction, the company that manages this property for Imperial Oil has put up new signs on the site once again and a for sale sign though there are some questions about the property because of environmental issues.
