Its that time again

FTLComm - Tisdale - Thursday, May 5, 2005

Yesterday afternoon just after school the family who live on this corner noticed water bubbling up out of the ground. The town crew had repaired a broken water main over near the RECPlex yesterday and this morning they dove into the street here to repair a cast line that had cracked open.

Though we had a mild winter there was a frost level and as it warms up the frost migrates downward and the old cast lines are often unable to cope with the chill.

The plan is that this line and the one that goes from the corner past the MapleRidge over to 95th will be dug up and replaced this summer. This will give the town the opportunity to install service lines to the four new house lots on that block.

I mentioned to the crew that I had noticed them slicing into the pavement on main street and though work on the downtown improvement project was not slated to begin until June it has been pushed ahead a bit and a curbing crew are expected to begin work next week. A different contractor will be doing this year's work than the company that worked on the initial project last summer.

Oh yes, this afternoon I spotted a nice stream of water flowing into a storm sewer a block east of the Golden Age Centre, could be another leak.
