Some holes are deeper than others

FTLComm - Tisdale - Friday, June 4, 2003

While water lines may leak or break Tisdale currently gets its water supply from a series of wells along the Doghide. But out on farms many families have to depend on dugouts to supply them with water for domestic use.

This house just happens to be located over a gravel bed that is a natural aquifer and the old well is just not providing sufficient supply so a new well is being drilled.

This is a deep operation with a large casing being placed in the deepening hole. When I came along this morning they had hit a nasty rock bed and had to do some blasting. A charge was prepared and a man in harness (below) lowered down the well to place the charge. There was a nice snap as the charge was set off and once again the crew was ready to keep on digging.
