Careless Disregard |

Goodale backs jet purchase (London Free Press, Thursday, October 3, 2002 ) is a telling admission of the priorities of the current Chretien government. It is an admission of abuse of power and careless disregard for the well being of others.
Cabinet chose to pad its own comfort "in terms of executive travel" over the real and pressing need to replace antiquated equipment being used by Canada's military. This is the same government that is all too eager to send its limited forces into harms way, but do nothing to provide them with the support and equipment they need to do the job.

It will soon be a full decade since Chretien cancelled a duly tendered and approved contract for helicopters to replace what were then aging Sea Kings. Over the course of time, the government has drifted aimlessly and half heartedly looking for some sort of replacement. They still can't find one.

But, when it came to its own comfort, the government bought and paid for two new executive jets in record time. As Joe Clark said,
"It was a bad decision. It appears to have been taken for very partisan reasons, and that is wrong." |
