Where is Canada? |

Although the Prime Minister is trying to reposition himself, Canadians have been embarrassed by the potshots that he and other members of the Liberal government have taken at the US President. But they find no comfort in the official opposition either, as it stands "Ready Aye Ready" in support of the American Administration. Neither of these positions is good and proper.

Progressive Conservative Members of Parliament, on the other hand, have proposed a plan that would see Canada support its allies and play a leading role in re-building Iraq.
The Tory plan calls upon the government to ensure the United Nations is given the mandate to lead reconstruction efforts.
Canada should also immediately dispatch a field hospital to Iraq to help deal with the mounting casualties of war. This would be in addition to money for humanitarian aid.
Canadian ships already serving in the Persian Gulf should, in addition to fighting the war on terror, provide safe passage to ships containing humanitarian supplies through the Gulf to Iraqi ports.
Tory leader Joe Clark summed up the plan best,
"It is time we get off the sidelines and make our contribution to ensuring the best possible outcome to the war in Iraq." |
