GST

In that $1.56 out of the $24.00 Airport Security Charge paid for a round trip ticket is paid as GST questions arise.

Was siphoning off revenue into the GST planned from the beginning? If so, was Finance Minister Paul Martin's assurance when introducing is that
"all revenues collected would go to security spending"
just part of the sales spin?
   

tax on tax

Public acceptance of this levy has been based on its being a security measure. In the public mind it is a dedicated tax. But since no tax could be levied on it, since a tax can't be levied on a tax, just what is it? A tax? A good and/or service to be taxed?

 

 

what's up?

Taxing questions though these may be, to the former, the present finance ministers, 9/11 having been used to justify yet another financial demand, those having to pay have good reason to ask them, and better to expect answers.
