The RCMP are investigating five cases of possible criminal wrongdoing in connection with contracts awarded to various ad agencies in Quebec. That this is so, however, is no reason why the appropriate House of Commons committee can not hold an inquiry at the same time. The RCMP are looking into criminality. The Commons committee would look into how House rules and regulations were violated. Two quite different matters. It is specious of the Liberals to try to misdirect the public's attention by saying one jeopardizes the other.

Most will agree the Liberals' motive in shutting down the committee is to ensure that the public never knows how they have usurped taxpayers' dollars, funnelling them through Liberal-friendly firms willing to recycle some of that money back into Liberal Party coffers. In street parlance this is called a "kick-back" scheme. Inquiry is needed into the way various departments use taxpayer' dollars as it might uncover even more wrongful use of our money.

As Canadians do not approve of their tax dollars being used in this manner Liberals on the committee voted to shut it down. It is vital that this committee work go forward and that it is given full reign to investigate, calling anyone, including Alphonso Gagliano, to testify in order to get this matter cleared up instead of being hidden away as the Liberals are trying to do.

The opposition parties are right in demanding that this and other inquiries into how we are being governed take place and are right in making their request for public support.
