In the wake of Belinda Stronach’s dramatic decision to leave the federal Conservatives, the Progressive Canadian (PC) Party today reaffirmed its status as a political home and an emerging alternative for the millions of Canadians who once voted for the former Progressive Conservative Party.

“If Belinda Stronach ? a key architect of the Conservative-Alliance merger ? can’t believe in the path of the Conservative party, then who can?” said Tracy Parsons, leader of the PC Party. “Progressive Conservatives are clearly unhappy with the Alliance-dominated Conservative party, and for good reason.  They want their party back ? and the Progressive Canadian Party is making that happen.”

The PC Party, which has grown at a steady pace since its founding in 2004, has recently experienced a surge in membership, a sign of the increasing disillusionment with Stephen Harper’s party.

“Today’s news is further proof that Mr. Harper has pushed aside all progressive voices within the Conservative party,” said Jim Love, president of the PC Party and chair of the election campaign.  “We’ve seen it in Ontario, in Québec, and all across the nation. Word is spreading that we’re rebuilding a home for traditional Progressive-Conservatism ? and that’s why our membership is growing.”

“After today, Stephen Harper cannot pretend he is moderating the party,” said Parsons. “The strategy of the Alliance was never to merge, but to destroy the Progressive-Conservative movement.  The Progressive Canadian Party will not let him do that.”
