Member of Parliament for Edmonton Southeast, David Kilgour |

It is truly unfortunate that Edmonton Journal writer Paula Simons failed in her November 28 article to see the logic behind Edmonton Southeast Member of Parliament David Kilgour's concern that legalising same-sex marriage could lead to the acceptance of incest and polygamy. Just as religious arguments seem to be irrelevant in discussing one issue, they would be just as inconsequential in arguing the others.

Soon, those who oppose incestuous and polygamist marriages will be considered intolerant bigots, for under what reasons could such marriages be opposed? Polygamy has a long historic standing in many cultures, while the marriage between an uncle and adult nephew or between father and legal aged son, for example, would have no impediments if moral or religious reasons were no longer a consideration. Ms. Simons might not see the problem but Mr. Kilgour and others do.
