Mr. Harper, on numerous occasions you have declared Joe Clark as being the principle obstacle to bringing the Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance and the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada together. Now that Mr. Clark has requested his party initiate a leadership selection process, and affirmed he will not re-seek the leadership, it is put up or shut up time - for you.

If, through your carefully considered analysis, you believe that the PC Party membership, and more importantly, a majority of Canadians, is in fact crying out for some sort of merger with the CRCA - then the path you must follow is straight and narrow:

Resign from the leadership of the CRCA, and renounce your CRCA membership.

Take out a Progressive Conservative Party membership. I'll spot you the funds if you are short on cash.

Declare yourself as a candidate for the leadership of the PC Party and base your campaign platform on whatever theme you feel is most appropriate, whether it be 'unity' or 'merger' or 'We are Borg: You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.'

Then, through the course of your campaign and certain, overwhelming, defeat, you shall discover what was obvious all along: that Joe Clark is not the impediment to a mythical united right. No, in fact it is by the will of the majority of the PC Party membership - who are by their very nature a reflection of the broadest cross section of Canadian thinking - that you will be shown the door.

I do not see that will changing, not for you, not for Mike Harris or any other pro merger potential candidate.

Come on Stephen, prove to us that you don't in fact "pull stunts".
