Radwanski out of the frypan into the fire

Nelson, B.C. - Thursday, June 26, 2003 - by: Ken Wilson

So, we're finally rid of George Radwanski. Our collective outrage at his arrogance will soon abate. After all, his extravagance is small potatoes compared to other Liberal boondoggles, such as the Gun Registry.

Radwanski's departure, however, leaves the big questions unanswered.

  • Was it pure coincidence that he was hired a mere one day after he was discharged from bankruptcy?

  • Did Radwanski's Liberal connections play a role in his being forgiven half a million dollars in back taxes?

  • Were senior officials in the Prime Minister's Office simply incompetent or did they conspire to hide Radwanski's financial dealings when he was appointed to his cushy job?

Finally, will the Canadian public's right to transparency in government prevail? Don't hold your breath waiting for the answers. This is a government that is as arrogant, extravagant and secretive as Radwanski himself.
