and actually provide some on the job training but it was discovered that the real
value of students doing work as a school course had far more merit as a career counselling
process. Students really need to know, long before the start signing up for post
secondary education programmes what they do not like. That's right, they need
to know what sort of experiences they would rather avoid in their career selection.
Studies have shown that most people will actually have on average five careers during
their working life. So spending time on money preparing for employment that is unsuitable
is not a good idea and more research has determined that the strongest indicator
for the individual to find satisfying work is to go with what interests them. Sometimes
a person's interests and their abilities are consistent but not always and a work
experience programme like the one at TMSS gives the student real involvement that
helps to shape those interests and close the gap between ability (aptitude) and the
things the person likes. A good representation of the various employers involved in the last semester course were on hand for lunch including |

Tisdale’s Mayor, Rollie Zimmer who is a strong advocate for young people and their
quest to find their way in life. This class are all in grade ten while the students this semester out on the job for part of each day are grade eleven and twelve. The course involves a considerable amount of evaluation by the employer which in turn helps the student gauge what is expected of him or her in the various work places that are part of the placement. The employers who take on students do so as a service to the community because the limited amount of time and the amount of supervision and training pretty well equals the amount of work the students perform. |
