Recycling - Maybe not!

FTLComm - Tisdale - Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Have you, like our family, quit using plastic grocery bags? Tisdale consumers have purchased more of the cloth shopping bags sold by Extra Foods than other neighbouring stores have combined. The thing is, Tisdale people have a very responsible attitude toward recycling and environmental awareness. Having had Fripp and Nuform Packaging operate in the community for decades, the people here have got into a habit of sorting out their garbage and depositing their recyclable paper products at the SARCAN dumpsters at two locations in the community.

This morning a witness was shocked to see a dumpster truck emptying the SARCAN cardboard and paper products boxes and then heading out to the Tisdale Landfill with the stuff Tisdale people have been sorting out, storing, and thinking they were doing something good for the environment.

Though Nuform is no longer operating in Tisdale and the owners of Fripp have relocated their operation in Swift Current, it seems dead wrong, that we the responsible citizens of Tisdale are going to the effort of sorting out the paper products for recycling, only to have the material dumped into the landfill with other refuse.

It would seem to me, that questions should be asked about this.
