While Canadians flocked to the polls Monday to cast their ballots in the federal election and others prepared to cheer on the Jays I was in Regina to complete the process of cataract elimination. Back on June 12 I posted my first story about seeing clearly after my left eye was repaired. Monday it was time to fix the right eye.
I realise that we all understand how fragile the gift of sight is and yet as a part of life most of the time we do not give it a second thought. As a diabetic it is not something I can ignore. I have to keep those blood sugar numbers in check four times a day and despite that after being a diabetic since the 90s there can be problems.
My most pressing problem is blood vessels in the back of eye springing a leak now and then and putting blood droplets in the fluid of my eye obscuring vision. This is in itself a terrifying event though like most medical problems it always “looks” worse than it really is. On Friday before Thanksgiving my right eye leaked for three hours and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. Following that I had no vision in that eye even though it was scheduled for the cataract surgery on Monday the nineteenth.
Well since then the blood particles are gradually leaving and in time the weak vessels that caused the trouble will be replaced in the normal renewal that is all apart of the human body. I just have to be patient and keep the numbers in check.
Cataracts are also a part of the effects of diabetes and though things were brighter after the surgery clearness was a bit obscured by the blood particles. However, I now have binocular vision which is a very big thing and in five weeks from now I will get new prescriptions to get some reading vision.
As it is right now it is difficult to read and equally difficult to work on the computer to update Ensign. So, this is the reason Ensign was not updated this past week.
Today I drove around and revelled in the beauty of our little community. The sun was doing its job and the temperature unseasonably high for this time of the year. Tomorrow two of my sons are going to finish off the Thanksgiving project where they built a new deck for us. With most of it completed I will post a story showing the work in progress.
Believe me the deck is a great thing by I am so thankful for my family. I didn’t have a chance to tell you that last week but we had a wonderful Thanksgiving with all three grand daughters and all three sons here working together on a common project.
