Saskatchewan Good Sams club hold their annual mini-rally the weekend following Labour Day each year at Watrous’ Manitou Regional Park. This is an outstanding tradition as it brings all of the Saskatchewan chapters together in a sort of season wind up as many folks followup the event by winterising and storing their rig.

This is the second province wide event for each year as there is a June Samboree. This year the June event was held in North Battleford and in June 2016 the provincial chapters will meet at Outlook.
.
Each of the chapters have their own schedule and agenda for the get together with shared events through out the five days we spend at Watrous Manitou Regional Park. You can check out the Wheatland Sam’s agenda by clicking here. If you checked the agenda you will have seen that on the second night Wheatland and Heartland (Humboldt) shared a potluck supper together. This also is a long running tradition and for me one of the highlights of the whole affair.

After the supper both chapters posed for pictures and the Wheatland contingent to this year’s mini-rally can be seen below.

The main feature of the Good Sam movement is the socialisation that at the core of every event they undertake. Visiting and sharing the time together begins with morning coffee carries on with happy hour at four and twice during the event shared coffee meeting between chapters. We had a morning coffee with North Battleford and an afternoon coffee with Regina Queen City Sams.

Friday at 2:30 we began setting up our equipment for a
jam session that prefaced the wiener roast which began at 6:00 so fro 4:00 until 6:00 old and familiar songs were played and sung by the eight musicians augmented by many folks coming up and joining in using one of the mikes and a bunch of amplifiers that provided the sound. I must admit I am a pretty unrefined musician but I truly enjoyed the session and look forward to next year to see how that one turns out.

Following the wiener roast and ice cream there was the huge ticket raffle results that had been in progress throughout the five day event. Tickets had been sold and prizes from businesses all over the province had contributed. It took a long time to go through all the winners and the profit from the sale of tickets all went to Camp Easter Seal here at Watrous.

Saturday morning involved garage sale events staged by various chapters.

The mini-rally wrapped up with a
hymn sing at 10:00 Sunday morning lead by Bob and Betty Hay. By eleven we were all saddling up for our migration home. Over 100 rigs made their way out of the super Manitou Regional Park that seems almost tailor made for this kind of project. Below the Wheatland group were parked on a lot in Humboldt to share lunch together before heading our various directions home.

Now of course there is more. Visit
the pictures part of this site to see seventy-two pictures from the various parts of the mini-rally that were documented with photographs. The pictures are by Judy Shire, Jean Muntz and myself.
