Terry Fox Run

FTLComm - Tisdale - Friday, August 30, 2002

The evidence is already mounting that Cancer the horrific killer of tens of thousands of Canadians each year is not some inevitable unstoppable force. Cancer research is payoff in a continous and progressive manner as one after another forms of the disease are being slowly curtailed even in small ways, all of it adds up.

My mother died of it seven years ago and were she to be still living and struck by the disease today her chances would be more than 50% better then they were only seven years ago.

What is paying off is the dogged painstaking research that goes on in research laboratories and cancer research hospitals across this country. But here is something that we know progress is being made. Skin cancer, leukemia as well as a number of others are no longer a death sentence to the diagnosed patient and Canadians should be aware that their contributions to Cancer research is making the difference.

It seems a long time ago now that Canadians were focused on this marvelous young man with a form of bone Cancer. Terry Fox personally believed that what was affecting him was something that something could be done about and he was right. Since his efforts which raised our awareness of the positive affects of research each year in September people go out and run, walk or stroll and make a contribution to the Cancer fund.

This year's Terry Fox run in Tisdale is Sunday September 15, 2:00 to 4:00 sign up or make a pledge in front of the post office today. An investment that will definitely make a difference.
