Big Cabbage

FTLComm - Tisdale - Tuesday, October 1, 2002

The snow this morning reduced the number of vendors at the farmers market to two but they more than made up for the lack of other competitors.

Rudy's greenhouse in Carrot River had cabbage. These are the kind of cabbage that you might want to give them individual names.

Of course he had some modest ones but the big ones were startling in their appearance. These are tricky plants to grow because with to much water they will literally explode destroying themselves in the process.

The other vendor had a huge variety of different kinds of tomatoes. The most unusual ones were the ripe and ready for use purple ones seen at the front in the green tub.

But there were Romanian ones, cherry ones and several others so it looks like this gardener got it right this year.

Both last week and this I have been feasting on tomatoes from our own garden and I just can't get over the fabulous flavour of home grown tomatoes compared with those we see in the fresh produce departments of the grocery stores.
