Thursday Morning

FTLComm - Tisdale - April 13, 2000
When I think of Thursday my thoughts always turn towards Estevan where I spent a year teaching at Hillside school. The teaching staff in the whole community did a good deal of socialising and it was Thursday night that they chose to get together in a weekly trip to Noonan North Dakota to bowl ten pin. The thinking was you could always get through Friday, so enjoy Thursday night.

This morning has begun with a minor set back the temperature is well below freezing and the light snow from the night is swirling about. Below you can see that main street is deserted at 7:00 but there was a good deal of truck traffic before and after this picture caught the street in dormant state.

This picture looking across the trailer park on the North side of town is of no particular interest other than the contrast between the pleasant trailers and the imposing castle-like structure at the end of the street. As I drove around this morning I noticed that there were far more houses up for sale than has been the case for much of the past couple of years. However, I suspect that is
just an informal consideration
spring is the time when many people do seek to alter their place to live and Realtors have explained to me in the past that its the thing to do in spring time.

With Northern Steel now operating on both sides of town this sort of cross town transport of partly completed product movement is becoming common place and there is no other alternative but to drive the tanks through residential areas.

The picture below looks particularly rural but was taken to show the rather wintery look this morning looking into the wind and toward the North West up a small waddy behind the hospital. This picture was taken a few minutes after seven this morning.

When ever things look bleak there is always a way to find some hope. This is our deck in the backyard and I snapped this picture as I was coming in from the van after taking the pictures above. You can see the thin layer of snow on the deck but even though there had been cloud around at 5:30 it was very thin and the sun blasted though it as it rises into the morning sky. The warmth of the morning sun brings a smile to my face and signals that the snow was just a little precipitation and will be gone by noon everywhere but in the shadows.

To elevate our spirits even more the theatre is showing "Journey to Mars" this weekend and the bustle around Schpansky's is almost feverish as the yard is completely full of machinery in anticipation of the huge auction sale scheduled for Tuesday.

But for the rest of us perhaps we should think Estevan tonight take off some time for ourselves, we can always make it through Friday, right?
