2nd US
award month

SASKATOON- Pentagonia, a board game that was created and designed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, made Dr. Toy's 100 Best Children's Products list for 2001. It was the second major US award the Canadian-made game won this month.

Child
Resources

Developed by Dr. Stevanne Auerbach, Ph. D., a noted child development authority, as a service to consumers that desire to purchase safe, affordable, educationally-orientated, and stimulating children's products, and run by the non-profit Institute for Child Resources that Dr. Auerbach directs, the awards program has been in effect for ten years.

Under the program products are evaluated for their safety, age-appropriateness, design, durability, play value, cultural and ethnic diversity, educational value, learning skills, creativity, value, ability to foster an understanding of the community and world, and fun. Those chosen for the list are carefully selected from among hundreds that are reviewed annually.

Dr. Toy

The Dr. Toy website, http://www.drtoy.com, receives more than 70,000 hits a day and more than 2 million hits a month.

together

In the report on the 100 Best Children's Products that the Institute for Child Resources produces, Pentagonia is described as "fast paced, stimulating, challenging, and another winning product from Canada," and "a game that children and adults can enjoy playing together."

National
Parenting
Center

Earlier this month, Pentagonia received The National Parenting Center's 2001 Seal of Approval award, one of eight games to receive the honour. On their website, which receives about 175,000 hits per month, Pentagonia is described as a game that "features the skill and cunning of chess and the ease of checkers," which "offers a very competitive experience and is one you'll want to pull out again and again."

Seal
of
Approval

The National Parenting Center is a national US organization dedicated to providing parents with comprehensive and responsible guidance from the world's most renowned child-rearing authorities. Under its Seal of Approval awards program products introduced and marketed to the parent/child consumer market, are evaluated for their durability, desirability (game play or fun), and the interactive stimulation they provide.

Other
games

Other games to receive The National Parenting Center's 2001 Seal of Approval award included USAopoly's Scrabble Jr. Wildlife Edition and Monopoly, Astronomy Edition: Patch Products Incorporated's TriBond Jr.; Cadaco's Jumble; Out of the Box Publishing's Blink and My Word Junior, and Chuckle Games Incorporated's Brain Storm.

Rutgers

While it is a great game for parents and children to play, Pentagonia isn't only a children's game. In the year it was introduced to the world, Pentagonia was one of eight games selected by game-review writing students at Rutgers University in New Jersey for inclusion in their annual Most Enjoyed Games list.

teens

In fact, Pentagonia appeals to a broad demographic but seems to have a special appeal for late pre-teens and early teens, university students, and seniors. Now parents who are concerned about their children's intellectual development and learning skills, and about getting good bang for their entertainment buck, can be expected to find the game especially appealing as well.

distributed

Pentagonia is presently sold in game and gift stores in four Canadian provinces and more than fifteen US states, at HBC department stores in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and in US catalogs like Educators Outlet and Terrific Toys. It retails for $20.00 US in the United States and $25.00 Canadian in Canada.
