FTLComm - Tisdale - June 13, 2000

For many people their garden is more than a hobby it is a reflection of their ability and accomplishments. I have been looking around and once again this year found some exceptional projects but this one stands out as the best. These potato plants put my little wimps to shame and above all check out the neat lay out for this garden.

The cabbage sets are looking like mid summer in this image and almost everything is up and looking pretty good.

Below you will see one area that is not yet up but right beside the sidewalk is the lettuce and it appears as though these greens are already being used on the table.

Last year this was a remarkable garden as I visited with the owner when she was cleaning it up for fall. She explained to me at that time some of her basic principles for producing an excellent garden and one of the things that came across in our discussion was that she was not a pacifist when it came to what went on her her realm. She asserted herself and took control of what was happening. To me this was significant because I am always a bit intimidated by the gardening process, fearful that I might interfere with the natural order of things and always worried about what I am doing.
In this lady's garden she is
definitely in charge because of her experience and knowledge that gives her the confidence to plan and execute a garden that will server her and her needs.

On the right is her peas planted along the fence so that they will have a built in place to crawl up. Buy it is impressive to see how mature these peas are at this time of the year.

Last year a lot of garden plots in the town were not planted at all because of the staggered situation with spring. This year most gardens have been planted and most are looking good. We will take a look at others as the year progresses.
