FTLComm - Tisdale - June 8, 2000
When it comes to flowers it seems that I am less than enthusiastic about petunias, to me they have less colour then dandelions and are used so often that I just have an attitude toward the gregarious bunch. However, to everything there are exceptions, and this is such an exception. This house is located along the North end of Tisdale's main street and presents a very refined face to the world.

Yesterday we high lighted a home on the South side of town with exceptional landscaping and today this house and yard need to be seen in a similar light. This owner has put the great trees
in and around the yard to
excellent use and developed the yard's theme on these strong components.

The outstanding set of petunia baskets and the column (seen at the bottom) are just some decoration to an over all pleasing and comfortable setting. I think that this may be a day care as the enclosed play yard is filled with the greatest yard toys and play environment, the play area is enclosed in a simple fence but the surrounding trees give the area shelter and a setting.

The picture below shows the way the area under the evergreens has been set
aside with a wood border
which allows the area to be developed for flowers and other plants. With the heavy traffic that rolls by this yard day in and day out the trees along the front are useful sound absorbers helping to reduce the rumble of the huge "B" trains and giving the play area a feeling of seclusion from the constant stream of traffic on the street.

This is a corner lot which is always an added burden for the home owner to handle and as you can see in the picture below the North side of the yard shares the common theme with the front only here the trees are deciduous offering excellent shade and protection during
the summer.

Tisdale is in no way unique as almost every surrounding community, big and small has both attractive and exception yards that both illustrate the people's desire to make a pleasant environment but also to share it with others. It is equally remarkable to see how many of the farms throughout this part of Saskatchewan have yards that are complete and detailed parks. Some have literally acres of mowed grass often right out the surface of passing highways and roads. Through the summer we hope to bring you many examples of these so we can share in the beauty of these settings.
