March 22nd, 2005: Icy roads kept some members away from our March meeting, but still eight showed up.

Five of us had submitted slides to PRPA’s Travelling Salon competition. These had been returned and were projected and the judges’ comments read. We didn’t fare too well, our best mark being 86 out of a possible 150.

There were five entries into the March theme competition. First went to Jerry Crawford for his photo of a snowplane in a snow fog. Runners-up were Doreen Crawford’s photo of a cold-looking man with a snow blower, and Alan Caithcart’s photo of a bottle and two glasses of wine, all beaded with moisture.

There was some discussion about our June field trip with several possibilities being proposed. We would like to keep it within two hours’ drive from Tisdale, so members were urged to draw a circle on a map and see what looks interesting in that range. We will try to make a decision at our April meeting.

Due to some scheduling problems, our May meeting will be held on the third Tuesday of the month, rather than the fourth. That makes it May 17th. Make a note on your calendar right now!

Jerry Crawford played several short slide shows on a borrowed digital projector. The slide shows had been made with a program called ProShow Gold, using images taken with a digital camera, or scanned from conventional slides, negatives and photos. Somehow, the technology takes a picture that would strain to make a respectable 5” x 7” print, and makes it look terrific when blown up onto a 4’ x 4’ screen! The program can be used to burn the slide show onto a CD which can then be played in a DVD player onto a television screen. Music can be added, and zooming, motion, and transitional effects make it much more interesting than just a static slide show.

We are very sorry to hear that Glen Neish has been having some health problems; as a result they have not been able to attend many meetings this year. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Glen. We miss you both, and hope to see you again soon!

Aside from our field trip, there was almost no business to discuss, so the meeting adjourned early.

The April meeting will be held April 26th at 7 PM in the Kin Hall, Tisdale. Theme for April is “Snowbanks or Snowdrifts”.
