Parkland Photography Club held their first meeting of the 2011-2012 year in the
Doghide Gallery in Tisdale on Tuesday, September 27. There were thirteen members present including one new member,
Don Barbour. Before the business meeting started, each member shared some of the highlights of his/her summer.
Officers and chairpersons for the year are: President -
Bj Madsen; Vice-President -
Cindy Neilsen; Secretary-Treasurer -
Darlene McCullough; Newsletter -
Gerry McLellan; Competitions -
Anne McIntosh; Point System -
Cindy Neilsen; Display Board Photos -
Albert Orban; Media Releases -
Darlene McCullough; Archives -
Wendy Derbowka.
Competitions Chair,
Anne McIntosh, reminded members of the
Foto Fun Competition hosted by the
Gleneath Photo Club. Each member is asked to submit one digital image to Anne by October 15 so that she can burn them to a disc to submit as our club entries. The results of last year's competition should be available for the next meeting.
Suggested topics for the meetings this year were: to follow up on the last year's suggestion of photographing the
Highland Dancers; to submit more photos to the
Northeast Newcomers Services web site; to share the photos taken at the Museum photo shoot last spring; a workshop presentation on black and white photography; and a display of photos in
Melfort.
From this suggestion came the idea that each member will bring to the next meeting one 8 x 10 enlargement that could be matted and framed later for use in a club display. Each member is to tell the rest why he/she selected that particular photo from his/her collection.
The theme shoot for this month was
"Water" and there were twelve entries. First place went to
Don Barbour,second place to
Neil Anderson, and third place to
Albert Orban.
Cindy Neilsen suggested that each member take a photo of the covers of the books he/she has on photography and send these to the Newsletter editor,
Gerry McLellan. In this way we could set up a mini lending library.
President
Bj Madsen then presented silver medals to
Neil Anderson and
Lia Boxall who have accumulated 300 club points. Congratulations, Neil and Lia!
Thanks to
Albert Orban for supplying the lunch for this meeting.
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 25 in the
Doghide Gallery in Tisdale at 7 PM. Anyone interested in photography as a hobby is invited to join us then.
