Fourteen members of the Parkland Photography Club met in the Doghide Gallery on Tuesday, January 24. The club volunteered to take photos for the Relay for Life again this year. Gerry McLellan reported that he had obtained some prices for frames at Michael's and the club agreed to purchase ten frames for 8 x 10 photos and five frames for 11 x 14 photos. These frames will be used for photos which will be displayed around town. A request was made and the club volunteered to take photos suitable for a calendar for the Museum Committee as they prepare for their 25th Anniversary.

David Bone and an instructor from SIAST have both agreed to present sessions on photography at a future club meeting.

President Bj Madsen reminded members of the three upcoming Community College classes on photography. He also noted that there are few cemeteries in this area that are represented on the CanadaGenWeb.org Cemetery Projects. This is an online site that provides photographs of headstones in cemeteries. He suggested that this might be a project the club could undertake in the future.

Competitions Chair Anne McIntosh reported that she received the seventy-seven entries in the Foto Fun Competition sponsored by the Gleneath Photo Club. Every club that submitted five or more entries to the competition are asked to judge the entries. Anne McIntosh, Bj Madsen and Cindy Neilsen volunteered to do the judging and the images and judges' comments will be presented to the club members at the February meeting.

Club members then presented their 8 x 10 photos for this month. It is always interesting to see the variety of subjects for this.

Bj Madsen gave a presentation on black and white photography showing the advantages of this and stating that this could be done with the camera settings, or the photographs could be shot in colour and then changed to black and white in the computer. He gave a brief history as to how this was achieved before digital images came into being. He also had some prints to illustrate these.

There were eleven entries in this month's Theme Shoot "Break the Rules" . First place went to Gerry McLellan with his leaning building; second place to Bj Madsen with his chess board; and third place to Stephanie Pipke-Painchaud with a photo of her daughter looking into a mirror.

Thanks to Daylene and Tye Wallington for supplying lunch for this meeting.

The next meeting of the club will be on Tuesday, February 28 in the Doghide Gallery at which time the entries for the Foto Fun Competition will be presented along with the discussion of other club business. The Theme Shoot will be "Black and White" so we will see how much we learned from BJ's presentation.
