Some members came early to retrieve the photos hanging in the library, mount a new set of photos, both 8x10 and 11x14 sizes, and re-hang them in the library. We now have a fresh display for the public to enjoy. However, we are missing two 11x14 frames and three 8x10s.
The formal meeting was called to order at 7:30 by president Cindy Neilsen.
Eight members were present. Gerald McLellan was unable to attend and has informed us that, due to a work transfer, he will be unable to continue his membership and thus the jobs of website maintenance and newsletter publishing will have to be assumed by another member. Stephanie Pipke-Painchaud volunteered to do the website maintenance. The newsletter work will be tabled until the next meeting.
Treasurer Albert Orban announced that he has received the membership dues from three membersand advised us of our current financial status.Shelley Barbour has made a table cloth for the hospital display and will be reimbursed for her expenses.
Stephanie has talked to the librarians about the spring Shutter Bug show and has their approval, so long as it does not coincide with Rodeo Week, which begins April 13th. We could do the set up in the library at the April 23 club meeting and then set up table displays after school ends on Friday, April 26 and plan to open the show to the public from 7:00 to 8:30 on Friday evening. It will be necessary to do some promotion to inform the public of the show.
Neil Anderson will be meeting with members of the museum executive tomorrow morning to discuss the club’s possible contribution to another calendar. It was suggested that the club might form a committee to further meet with the museum executive if this is to go forward.
Anne McIntosh reported on the Foto Fun competition. From the club’s entries in last year’s event, three members received recognition. Daylene Wallington and Sharon Walker received honourable mention certificates and Anne McIntosh received a second place certificate.
Anne, Cindy and Don Barbour will meet at Don’s home on March 4th to do the judging on the current set of entries. Members are reminded to submit their entries for the next year: Photos must have been taken in Saskatchewan and the deadline for submission is mid October. The club must contribute five entries in order to participate.
The presentation which was made at the Melfort Library by Anne, Cindy, Gerry and Bj. Madsen was discussed. It was well received by the 30 or so attendees and seemed to have been successful. There had been an initial indication of interest in such a presentation to the Melfort Girl Guides, but no return calls have been received.
Don suggested that we need to have a better sign to hang in the library identifying the work as that of the Parkland Photography Club. He will make a sample and e-mail it to members.
The 11x14 show and tell brought out several excellent photographs:
- Don Barbour - a photograph taken in Peru showing a walkway and houses. - a macro photograph of a moth
- Neil Anderson - A silhouette of three people on a hill at sunset, shot in Florida
- Lia Boxall - a picture of clouds in a storm
- Bj. Madsen - A photograph of the prow of a viking ship, shot in Denmark
- Cindy Neilsen - A photograph of a Budda head from the University of BC Museum.
In the near future, we should consider new subjects for the Theme Shoot activity as well as possible candidates for executive positions.
The Theme Shoot winners were: First Place - Don Barbour - for a close up of an insect’s eye. Second Place - Wendy Derbowka - for a very colourful caterpillar. Third Place - Anne McIntosh - for a back-lit photograph of a bee.
Cindy made a presentation to Don Barbour of a bronze medal for points accumulated for attendance, participation and presentations. She also suggested that, at a future meeting, the criteria for point accumulation should perhaps be updated.
The meeting ended with conversation and a lunch which had been provided by Bj.
