Clearing The Way

FTLComm - Tisdale - February 6, 1999
Keep a railway line passable has historically been a difficult and costly task. Railway men would refer to the need to "run a plow" when the line became blocked and a snow plow car would be placed in front of the locomotive and a special train would make a run down the line. CP has a much more cost effective and better solution. This Kershaw ballast spreader used in the summer to move material along the rail bed has been refitted with a plow on the front and a blower on the back with wing plows on each side. This self propelled vehicle can go out and clean things up doing a much better job then ever before as you can see below right.
