Golden Age Centre Running

FTLComm - Tisdale - Thursday, November 29, 2001

Tomorrow the Tisdale Golden Age Centre goes from a construction project to an operating senior citizens facility for the community.

To launch the building and celebrate its competition the Senior Lawn Boiling club is sponsoring the afternoon and evening activities. A programme in the afternoon followed by a pot luck supper then a dance.

This morning there were about a dozen volunteers putting the last minute touches on things. A Christmas tree has been set up and decorated and truck loads of chairs and tables were being brought in and prepared for use.

The most important part of any building is its kitchen and the Golden Age Centre's kitchen looks like its ready for business.

Cupboards have been installed since last week as well as this large beverage cooler.

Of course there are still details to be finished up like some door and window frames but for the most part everything is in place to make the building more than useable.

The plan is to use these older chairs for a while until the Centre can apply for a grant. The grant that will provide the Centre with new chairs can not be applied for at this time so until then the ladies are cleaning up the chairs by

dusting them off and removing the gum.

This past week has seen the separation hardware installed in the washrooms, most of the electrical switches connected and as you can see in this picture the automatic doors are being installed today.

In the main hall the chair back bumper board has been installed around the room as well as the base boarding The magnificent beauty of the hardwood simply makes the place look great and the workmanship in the stage cupboard doors is truly marvelous

This is what the small wall fixtures look like as they are located throughout the building to produce excellent ambient light and reduce the glare of overhead lights for those occasions that need the atmosphere.

The volunteers working at the project this morning were moving the needed chairs and tables in while they were being cleaned, but there was no sense of urgency as everything is ready. The Golden Age Centre is now ready to serve the needs of its members and the community.

We will have pictures of tomorrow's event here in Ensign and soon we will get a page together that will let you see the project as it began with Chupas removing the grass until today.
