Very slow moving traffic

FTLComm -Tisdale - Thursday, November 7, 2002
Last week I was alarmed when I spotted this elder lady grappling with her packages which had fallen from her walker in the crosswalk in front of Zeorbe's Bakery. Two ladies rushed to her assistance helping her get the bags upright and the contents aboard. She smiled and thanked them and they went on their way while she promptly swung the walker perpendicular to the crosswalk and started South on main street in the extreme right hand lane, oblivious of the constant rumble of "B" trains and mixed traffic that make their way through town on a busy afternoon.

Within a car length he trip once more came to a halt as she made a panic stop from her steady pace to once again straighten the contents of her walker. This time once more two more folks dashed out into the street to offer her assistance.

While getting my "BeeSting" at the bakery I asked them about the incident and the staff there explained that they and others had urged the lady not to play in the traffic as there was a perfectly good sidewalk for her to travel on but alas as we can see in these pictures she seems to like the danger.

These pictures were taken yesterday morning as she rolled out onto main street and headed off on her mission avoiding the sidewalk as most pedestrians avoid the busy street.
