Track and field season

FTLComm - Tisdale - Wednesday, April 22, 2009

TMSS's Brownridge Field was covered with participants and coaches as the high school have an excellent day for a track and field practice. The temperature was about 17ºC and about twenty-five km of wind from the south at 415 when I drove by and snapped these pictures.

It is great to see that many students out for a track and field practice but is important to remember that Tisdale has a long and successful tradition of having truly outstanding results at NESSAC and provincial competitions.

Track and field is a difficult school sprot because of the remarkably short one month season and though coaches try to do training in the gym it just isn't the same as being out on the field getting used to a new body and new skills. For most track and field athletes every season is brand new as their high school lives are but four years long and that is precisely the time in a young person's life when they are physically and emotionally really undergoing big changes.

A couple of blocks away I found a large group of skate boarders also enjoying the warm afternoon and the social experience of being with one another. Let's face it sports of any kind is a very positive thing in the life of young people as it sets the stage for a life time of better living.
