Stock Car Race Season Begins
For Second Year

FTLComm - Tisdale - May 27, 2001

Silvertown Speedway began its second full season of racing yesterday with seven cars ready for this year. This facility, new last year has had some additional improvements since last year with some fences, gates and railings built.

Many of the car builders this year are not finished yet but will be on hand for the next go round as a full summer of racing is planned including the spectacular Motor Madness Weekend in late June.

The car at the top of the page is one of the new machines in this year's competitions while the reliable and well driven #41 car has had a new power train installed to face the rigours of going all out round after round.

The pit gear, right down to the mascot VW41 is all set up for today and first on the maintenance agenda is the replacement of the air filter.

Working on a clay track is a real challenge, especially in such a dry year. Over thirty thousand gallons of water was put on the track yesterday and races figure it could have used more than

double that amount as below the surface it is bone dry.

The mud on the cars tells the surface story as you can see on this veteran. Schpansky's cars, Northern Steel and others will be with these cars on the track this afternoon with lots of enthusiastic supports out to cheer on the noisy activity. Drivers anticipate good racing conditions this afternoon and the facility is definitely ready for the season.
