Trojans' coach Archibald named
SMAAAHL coach of the year

FTLComm - Tisdale - Friday, March 14, 2008

For the first time in the history of the Tisdale AAA Midget Trojans, their coach has been named the league's coach of the year. Barry Archibald took over the team about a year ago this month has turned the team around. Last year the team did not make the play offs and distinguished themselves as one of the most penialised teams in the league. This year the team has been in first or second place in the league exhibiting outstanding hockey and remarkable discipline as a team that is recognised for its sportsmanship and determination to play better and better as the season has progressed. It was almost a full house last night as the Trojans played the second game in a best of five semi-final series with Saskatoon Blazers. They had won the first game of the series and last night took a clean lead by scoring two goals in the first period. The first goal, a break away is the second picture on the left. The second goal at 12:32 came on a combination play wiith a smart point shot that was impossible for the Blazer goal tender to defend.

As I stood, camera in hand, trying to capture some of the action on the ice last night, I felt like I was priviledged to be at such a fine display of the game. This is how we all imagine hockey should be played. Great skating, outstanding passing and play making, by both teams, and end to end action, from the moment the period began until the closing whistle.

Trojans won the game 4 to 2 and play Saturday night in Saskatoon. Should they lose Saturday night they will be back in Tisdale Sunday night at 7:00. If all goes well the Trojans should win the series and go on to play the winners of the Prince Albert Mintos series with the Notre Dame Hounds. I predicted that they Regina Pat Canadians would beat Prince Albert but I was wrong, but here I go again, predicting that the Hounds should best the Mintos and it will be a tough series between the Trojans and the Hounds, the first and second place teams in the league for the championship and the right to go to the Air Canada Cup and represent the province in the national championship.
