The change in season is never really very smooth and often suffers from a degree of regression. When we left Winnipeg on Monday March 7 there was no snow to be seen. There were flights of geese orbiting above and it really looked like winter was over. North of Stockholm on highway #9 heading toward Yorkton we came to a dividing line. There were brown fields and puddles then suddenly snow in all directions.

Here in Tisdale on Wednesday night (March 9) the temperature stayed above freezing and there was water running in the street and the back yard quickly began that thawing process.

It was spring, the geese were back and the ditches running. The modest winter’s snow was rapidly disappearing. Judy captured these scenes near the Tisdale cemetery and complained of mud.

But alas dear friends this has been a truly mild winter, the warmest in my lifetime and one really has nothing to complain about. Each year we have to work through the transition both in the fall and the spring and each year we have a few surprises. Rousing winter storms are more than possible right into May just as warm summer like days can happen in late october.

We have snow and the grey skies have prevented day time heating from cleaning it up as blowers have been put back into service and you are definitely going to have to wash your car again and again.

The geese just waddle through the sprinter as best they can because they need to get this year’s eggs layed so that the goslings of 2016 have a good chance of making the long flight south in October.

On Sunday, March 13 we took a drive over to Carrot River and snapped this image of an ageing horse barn at Arborfield. We stopped in at Pasquia Regional and there were people sliding on the snow covered hillside by the golf course.

Spring is a time for renewal of all kinds. From the picture below FastGas has been destroyed and two small old houses in our neighbourhood suffered the crunch of the trackhoe.
