I had to go over to Winnipeg to complete a project
and so after discovering that bus fare was $89 and train travel impossible with gas
prices as they are it was the sensible thing to go by air for $99 but when you add
fees and taxes that was $148. I was booked on a 7:30 Air Canada flight to
Winnipeg and struggled out of bed at 5:30 got the airport in the one hour
before departure to check in and discovered the flight had been cancelled Maybe it
was mechanical, maybe it was because I was the only person going to Winnipeg.
Nevertheless Air Canada was helpful in arranging a flight for me to leave
Regina at 9:15 and go to Calgary then fly over Saskatchewan again to Winnipeg.
The was a bonus in this as I really did not need to get to Winnipeg in a rush
but my son and his wife left Regina at the same time as I went to the airport
had to stop for a meal and replace a tire and still made it to Winnipeg more
than an hour before me.
The flight to Calgary was aboard one of the interesting Bombardier regional jets
and that is a very nice quiet and comfortable way to travel. In Calgary I
wandered from the departure area about fifty feet and talked to the first Air
Canada office I found and the guy said he was looking for me and my flight was
to depart in a few minutes.
Calgary to Winnipeg was aboard an Airbus 320 - 200
and it is an outstanding machine, quiet comfortable and all around far more user
friendly than the Boeing 767 I
had recently ridden from Minn. to Las Vegas.
But I have some things you can see to share in these flights. The images below begin
with an over the wing shot of the Saskatchewan cloud cover and the neat wing
of the Bombardier. Then two pictures of the inside of the aircraft. From the
fourth picture on we are in the Airbus 320 departing Calgary and landing
in Winnipeg.
Click on the images below to see them full size. I also have a video to show you
the departure what little land I could see in between and the arrival in Winnipeg.
This clip is about seven and half minutes.
