Regina |
The Saskatchewan Wheat Corporation´s - SWC(formerly the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool) monthly, pep-talk, was delivered to the Regina Chamber of Commerce, Tuesday Morning, April Third. |
lack of |
Why unbelievable? Well, not because the President and Chief Executive Officer continue to appear in public with such loosely scheduled regularity. Not at all; one has to expect some form of fumbling offensive from those terrible twins of mismanagement as a defence against the public´s lack of confidence in the SWC´s future. |
illogical |
No, what is unbelievable is that they would strut illogical pronouncements out to the general public with what we must only assume to be their belief that we, the public, would swallow them. |
profit |
For instance, Mr. Mayo Schmidt, CEO, says the corporation will begin showing a profit next year. The reason? Well, according to that imported corporate whizz, because by that time, the corporation´s competitors will be forced to close small elevators; that will increase the SWC´s market share! |
producer |
Nonsense! There is not that much market share floating around out there. The major grain companies have all gone for big, inland, terminals. Former loyal members of the Pool have left in droves with a vow not to return. Major strides in producer car loadings are taking place even as I write this. |
dirty nails |
Schmidt's overall lack of managerial logic shows like dirty nails at a dinner party. |
satisfied |
Even if closing more small elevators could make a market-share difference then it follows that those farmers who have a choice of hauling to their local, smaller, elevators choose to do so as long as they possibly can. That being the case, the SWC, would have been better off to keep open many of the small elevators - still with years of service to offer. The possibility of also having many more satisfied customers never seems to have occurred to Schmidt and his gang. |
ocean |
Schmidt also cannot expect us to forget the Board of Directors and Management have run up a debt of 1 BILLION dollars. Turn a profit next year? You believe that and you can buy some of my ocean front property just out here back of our shelter belt! |
change |
At the same time Marvelous Marvin (Wiens), suggests that farmers are just too negative. He says we should spend more time bragging and less time bashing the farm sector (Read Saskatchewan Wheat Corporation!). From the comfort and perspective of his bumper-crop-salary, pension, and head office perks, he tells us we should change our ways. |
tough |
Get plugged in Marvin! We certainly have changed our ways - therein lies your corporation's problems. And despite the tough times, a lot, maybe most of us, are viewing a successful farming future. |
That view just doesn´t have the Saskatchewan Wheat Corporation in it! | |
