Winter's here, snow and blowing snow |

FTLComm - Tisdale - Thursday, December 19, 2002 | ||||||
There is a point when it becomes completely obvious that there is no going back and indeed the season has changed. That time is today, winter is here. Even though the temperature is only -4 a serious snowfall began last night, though the accumulation was small the wind was determined and flowing from its winter home in the Northwest. Our thermometer was missing this morning as the soon to be decorated Christmas tree broke free and fell over the doorway sending the |

thermometer down the steps. This is winter. The picture at the top of the page shows the view South down #35 at 9:00 and some fools decided today was the day to do a little electrical touch up work atop the new A&W. A logging truck heading through town and snow clearing equipment dashing about scooping and pushing the drifts aside. |

With the shortest day of the year, the first official day of winter only a day away we can see that its time to settle into the routine of snow and blowing snow. I talked with a farmer yesterday who's crop lies in the field and he said that the warm weather had destroyed any hope of salvage from what is out there but remember this is Saskatchewan, next year country and the Nipawin crushing plant is offering contracts for $10 for next season's crop. |

The picture above and on the rest of this page were taken yesterday when it looked like it was snowing but very little seemed to settle on the ground. Today we are now down to half a mile and the neighbour has fired up his snow machine and taken a turn around the neighbourhood. This driver knows that from now on the roads will be fit only for a dog. Yesterday morning this trucking unit pulled into the Post Office parking lot and with the snow |

falling and swirling around it seemed like perfect timing for a government project. As it turned out the truck was just dropping off the materials for a roof overhaul of the post office scheduled for February. Most of this load was insulation. I road downtown on the bicycle yesterday and last evening but alas it is time to put the thing away until, well. . . until the snow disappears from the pavement. Meteorologists are predicting a warm dry winter so we can make it through until the weather gets colder in the season called spring. |
