Tisdale Today - August 30, 2002

FTLComm - Tisdale - Friday, August 30, 2002
The Labour Day long weekend is upon us, does that mean summer, the screwy summer of 2002 is over?

I doubt if I will ever get used to the idea of multi-functioning human beings. It is now a fact of life that when you walk, ride or drive on the road, you no longer have to worry just about someone drunk putting an end to your existance. Driving seems to have become merely a process people do when they are talking on the phone. Perhaps with the end of no-fault we might see a few law suits that might curb drivers / telephone chatters. Gosh, maybe a law suit against the telephone provider and the cell phone manufacturer might be a good idea. Well at least your surviving relatives could take such action. To many people's lives are extinguished on the roads and highways let us hope that the phones will be quiet this weekend and the booze left in the bottle.

There was the rumble of thunder from six on this morning and just a few drops were falling around seven. But that little sign of dampness really has brought out the business as traffic in downtown Tisdale this morning was amazing at 11:00 when I went for the mail. Steady flow of all manner of vehicles through town and people

shopping and going about their business.

For many this is the weekend to close up the summer cabin but there will still be many people in town. "The Harcourts" are doing a country music concert at the RecPlex auditorium tonight.

As
mentioned it was sign up time at the Post office this morning for the Terry Fox run.

The sign above is in Sonya's window, if one wasn't in Tisdale it might seem a bit harsh but in this peaceful town its playful point is benign.

Above all the bustle downtown and at the mall was remarkable. One farmer had a small market with fresh corn on the farmers market square.

For me Labour Day weekend is determined to be one of rest. May the gods of football be with the Riders Sunday and lay waste to the Bombers and may the Canadian 19 and under soccer team play their best game ever Sunday afternoon at 4:00 against the United States for the World Championship.

Speaking of Championships the Trojan season is fast approaching with your support let's make it two Canada Cups in a row.
