My Opinion

very
competitive
market

After reading the two stories (Juicy Jets and Nice Planes But. . .)about Jean Chretien's new aircraft I have two opinions. First, as the leading elected official and therefore the prime Ambassador for Canada he should by all means promote Canada's industry to the utmost while at home and abroad. With competition like the Gulf Stream G-IV that travels just under the speed of sound and the 737 based Boeing BBJ as competition, in a very competitive market, the finest Challenger should be flown by our Prime Minister. The line that said "and then out steps Jean Chretein....", good line.

SeaKing
replacement

However, this is the same Jean Chretein who made it his prime campaign issue dat Canada not need da Cadillac helicopter when da Chevrolet just as good, then he cancels the contract, pays the cancellation fee, turns around and buys nearly the same bird with a much later delivery date all the while costing the tax payer far more than Mulroney's "Cadillac". The man is far more out of touch than George Bush Sr. when he was left speechless at the question of the cost of a loaf of bread.

not
nice

Speaking of President Bush - throughout the 50's, 60's and 70's, the U.S. Government by way of the CIA (with George Bush the the Director) did a lot of back room dirty deals and Blind Eye activities in Central and South America. Tin Pot Dictators were established, hollow words of Democracy were spoken and the whole thing devolved into a very sordid affair. While many a book was written about Reagan's administration, Iran - Contra and the rogue warrior Oliver North, a lot of wrongs were righted by the Iran Contra affair and Ollie threw himself on his sword to protect his leader. Yes, that is still open to a lot of debate. Reagan said he wouldn't negotiate with hostage takers yet he dealt with them, yet remember the words of the Soviet Ambassador regarding the Manuel Noriega standoff in Panama: "He may be an SOB but he is your SOB". You created him, you deal with him. In the end for the most part that region of the world got cleaned up by means not widely smiled upon.

biggest
buffoon

Speaking of President Bush, The Next Generation. Until the events of 9-11 he was well on his way to being regarded as one of the biggest buffoons to warm the seat of the Oval Office. Post 9-11, rally round the flag, and the leader, like him or not the next election is still way in the distance. He saw his father implement the largest policy mistake of the 20th Century by not going on to Baghdad, and now that George Jr. is in the neighborhood he is showing every intention of cleaning up that section of the world. In my opinion, he is in SO far over his head the world could be in <ahem> a world of hurt. Given the fact that events in South America have never been a concern of North America, the coup that just took place there while our short attention is other wise diverted, Lord knows if this administration is taking a monumental step backwards or not.

Ski-Doo

We can be lucky at least that Jean Chretein does not hold the power and influence that George Bush does. It'll just be our little secret that his new Ski-Doo is nice and shiny yet those who defend our country fly aircraft that were state of the art, circa The Bay Of Pigs.
