Once in a while something is created that establishes a concept and all other things
that follow merely attempt to capture the quality and capability of the original.
Walter Beech began the Beech Aircraft Company in Wichita Kansas in the pit of the
depression, 1932. His first aircraft was the non-retractable version of the aircraft
shown above. From then on general aviation would measure all aircraft against this
machine and those that followed it, as the standard. As a Cessna 172 and 182 owner,
my boys and I worked with our engineer for annuals and 100 hour inspections and he
would frequently remark that this or that part was deficient because it was not up
to the standards of a "real" aircraft, a "Beechcraft." |
