Beechcraft Staggerwing - Model 17R

FTLComm - Watson Lake Yukon - December 28, 1998
Once in a while something is created that establishes a concept and all other things that follow merely attempt to capture the quality and capability of the original. Walter Beech began the Beech Aircraft Company in Wichita Kansas in the pit of the depression, 1932. His first aircraft was the non-retractable version of the aircraft shown above. From then on general aviation would measure all aircraft against this machine and those that followed it, as the standard. As a Cessna 172 and 182 owner, my boys and I worked with our engineer for annuals and 100 hour inspections and he would frequently remark that this or that part was deficient because it was not up to the standards of a "real" aircraft, a "Beechcraft."
