The movie "No Clue" opened in Tisdale last night as we came out of the theatre Mike Tatarynovich said, "
isn't that something a movie like that being made by a person from right here." I totally agreed with Mike and not because the writer and star of the movie is none other than Tisdale's Brent Butt but because "No Clue" is a truly exceptional movie. It stands out in a time when movies that are suppose to be funny are just excuses to use words that just should not be said. "No Clue" is rated "PG" and not only can anyone go to it and enjoy a clever movie but the theme and the nature of the story is classic, not old fashioned but the way good movies have always been only this one is set in modern day Vancouver and with its helicopter shots and great interiors it is beautifully shot.

There is a tradition of the classic detective movie, the kind of thing we might remember Humphrey Bogart in or the Sam Spade stories that were on radio and television today. In fact the most popular TV shows the past few years have been "who done it" things like
Castle, Elementary, Murdock Mysteries and Unforgettable. A detective mystery story is practically a formula and needs to take the viewer on a journey for plot twists and turns as the clues unfold to resolve the crime. In this movie it is first and foremost a detective story and secondly a light comedy.

The comedy part is definitely not of the American slapstick or fowl mouthed thing we have become accepting of, instead this movie is filled with chuckles and laughs created with the craftsmanship of a Canadian writer with that mid-Atlantic inclination to use wit and outstanding almost
Bob Hope one liners.

The basic premise is just plain fun. The main character "Leo," sells novelty advertising items and is next door to a detective agency and the detective is out of town. The lady in distress seeks Leo's help to find her missing brother. Now this really brings me to what I liked most about the movie, plausibility. Most of what happens in the story could happen and as you watch it you can see yourself in the situation. That is the very essence of a good movie and one that is memorable and thoroughly entertaining.

The fact that Brent Butt grew up here in Tisdale is remarkable and that his success as a stand up comedian and star of a television show and like Mike I think it extra-ordinary that he has already had these achievements but now he has succeeded in make a whale of a good movie. He did it with outstanding writing and no matter what your tastes in entertainment you can go to
No Clue and enjoy yourself.
