Regina Sedley Lewvan

The Wascana creek has been opened up to drain - apparently just in the nick of time.

The water is encroching on the pathways and the informative signage that was recently installed.

A pretty picture but also a reminder of the tremendous force of nature.

To the east we find a great deal of snow cover remaining in the Wascana basin waiting for that warm and windy spring day when it "all goes" racing toward Regina!

At the auction we find one of two culverts nearly full and flowing to the west missing most of the farmyard for now.

This clever fellow has had a mishap on the winter ice but has come to the auction as prepared as any and better prepared than some.

Moving south to the Souris side we find this grid road bridge (one of many) with a rush of water moving and a lot more to go on either side.

An interesting look at a submerged culvert south of Lewvan sucking the water to its capacity.

vlcsnap-4516274

The (former) town of Lewvan has a lot of water everywhere too. The poor old rink is caving in at the top and is now flooding on the bottom as well.

vlcsnap-4517019

West of Lewvan there are actually five of these really big culverts very nearly full - I think they may be 4 footers Unfortunately the drainage ditch they feed has not thawed out yet and the water is backing up onto the adjacent fields.

vlcsnap-4517097

You can see that the ditch is almost completely overtaken with the water level and the land to the right is flooded for a half mile minimum.

There is still lots to come on the other side.

The next drainage ditch a couple of miles west again has seen an attempt to clear the snow and ice early on however the water is not really moving much here yet either although it seems to have filled up.

vlcsnap-4517352

A big chunck of ice came along just when I was there - it drifted in but did not make it through this large culvert while I was there. I am predicting that any kind of a warm windy day soon or a 2 inch rain will produce a tsunami like effect in both Regina and Weyburn considering the volume of water I see poised and ready in this area.

I saw a few geese on the way back but the pictures do not really do the sheer number justice.
