Parents were even more motivated to see their children master
this task when the industrial revolution pulverised what had been the way of life
of Northern Europeans and life expectancy decreased with this came the realisation
that education was no longer a good thing, but it was now a necessity. We have long
since left the industrial revolution behind and moved through several other technological
time zones all of which contributed in their own way to determining that universal
literacy is required and before my life ends, we will see the first years of post
secondary school publicly funded and as universal, as learning to read in grade one.
We as a species have no choice but to propel ourselves ever further onward in this
quest. |
