A&W takes shape

FTLComm - Tisdale - Wednesday, October 9, 2002

We have been following the construction of this new fast food outlet with interest since
excavation began in late August. ( A list of each story is found at the bottom of the page) Our last report was on September 16, so we have some catching up to do.

On Friday evening September 20 the paving crew were almost done the drive way and parking area. Though it looks done in these pictures they were back Monday morning to clean up the

back of the lot.

Creating a hard surface around the site is almost as important as the building itself as the need for drive up traffic is what such a restaurant is all about and the hard surface makes it easy to keep clean all year round and of course makes it easier to maintain the inside of the building itself.

The picture below and of the interior construction were taken on Wednesday September

25 when the carpenters were almost finished and the plumbers and electricians set to work running the lines from the under floor work they had done before the building was erected.

These pictures show what looks like miles of wire that handles ventilation, lighting and all the electrical equipment that is so much a part of modern buildings.

This is an air conditioned building and the units to look after heating and cooling are placed on the

roof.

This picture looks through the back of the building.

The structure was basically complete at this point and the picture below was taken on Sunday, September 29 with the distinctive sign shapes now in place on the building's exterior.

A&W is one of the first drive in chains and is proud of the part it played in the growing up of generations of North Americans. I for one was there to see that development over the

years and remember with incredible fondness the week when the "teenburger" was introduced. On the evening my wife and I got married we stopped at an A&W on the East side of Regina which was the first time we shared a meal as married folks.

A simple restaurant like this which keeps that same menu all over the continent can play such an important part in a person's life. Like the first Mottza burger in Grand Prairie with my

youngest son as we were on a thirty-hour cross country bus trip.

The lines are on the pavement and Mr. Tree was installing the landscaping elements yesterday as the whole project will be completely trimmed up with vegitation making it much more elaborate in that regard than the Melfort version and the Nipawin outlet which is in a convenience store.
