All of the auto makers decided that the public wanted something a little more upscale in a muscle car from the Mustang, Camero and cheap Chrysler boxes with wheels and the Torino, Monte Carlo and the Chrysler 500 came on the scene.

The Torino was much more money and could only be purchased as a two door. The power under the hood was substantial but there was a lot more car to move around than the cheaper muscle cars.

There were some neat racing versions and this class of car actually did very well in a market that was extremely confusing with models and features. Transportation was not really what the Torino was all about.
